Allergic contact eczema is an immune reaction of the skin against a particular substance.
The most common form of contact eczema is hand eczema. Between one and four percent of the German population suffers from hand eczema. In patients with hand eczema, the skin’s protective ability is diminished. Substances can permeate the skin easily, leading to further damage. The skin of the hands is especially vulnerable to substances in the workplace and in the household (cleaning products, etc.)
