
Substances which in rare cases cause allergic reactions include flour dust, raw silk, and bat excrement. These substances must be specially removed; they can remain for weeks or months in the home, even after the source has been removed. Allergenic plants such as the ficus benjamina can be thrown out or given away, but never by the allergy patient him- or herself!
