Therapy

Allergen immunotherapy offers long-term, effective protection against life-threatening allergic reactions. The success rate for treatment of insect allergies is 90%.

The goal of allergen immunotherapy is to accustom the body to small doses of the insect venom: watered-down venom is injected in increasing doses over a period of at least three years.

The treatment begins with a 3-5 day hospital stay, in order to ensure that no complications ensue. The next phase is outpatient treatment every 4-8 weeks. The therapy lasts at least five years.

In addition, all patients should possess the following emergency medications:

  • Antihistamines (such as Xusal® oder Telfast® 120 mg)
  • Glucocorticoid (such as Prednisolon® 50 mg)
  • Adrenaline (such as Fastjekt® oder Epi-Pen®)
