Tips

Tips for dealing with acute urticaria:

  • Avoid foods or products you suspect may cause the hives
  • Treat the symptoms with antihistamines
  • Allergy tests or other attempts to find the cause are not necessary
  • If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, see a doctor
  • If your symptoms last longer than six weeks, see a doctor.

Tips for dealing with chronic urticaria:

  • Keep a diary of your symptoms – this can often reveal hidden causes. Every day, write down the severity of your symptoms, everything you ate or drank, and any medications you took.
  • Avoid painkillers in the „NSAID“ group („non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs“). These include aspirin, diclofenac, and ibuprofen.
  • Patients with chronic urticaria often report that symptoms worsen after drinking coffee or alcohol. Strong spices can also cause problems.
