The European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) was founded in 2003 by our sponsor Jørgen Philip-Sørensen.
Europe's largest university clinic, the Charité in Berlin, was selected as the foundation's headquarters. The facility boasts an outstanding international reputation, with all clinical disciplines represented, as well as fundamental medicine and facilities for basic research. The various departments can network information about their experimental and clinical research, assuring optimal care for patients with allergies.
ECARF and the
Allergy Centre Charité represent an elite interdisciplinary research centre for clinical care, science, research and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of allergology.
The Centre is also integrated into the existing quality assurance system for the Clinic for Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology at the Charité, which is ISO 9011-certified. Furthermore, ECARF is integrated into the quality management system of the EU network
GA²LEN, the Global Allergy and Asthma European Network.
ECARF is a member of the
Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen (Association of German Foundations) and is administered as part of the
Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Science and the Humanities in Germany). Germany's Federal President Prof. Dr. Horst Köhler serves as sponsor of the Donors' Association.
