Warm weather situation causes unusual early pollen flight

The PID (Stiftung Deutscher Polleninformationsdienst / Foundation German Pollen Information Service) informs:

Since the first days of December 2006 hazelnut pollen has occurred in several areas in Germany. This is an unusual early start of hazelnut pollen development and flight, which normally starts in January.

People who are living in the affected areas and are suffering from an allergic rhinitis caused by hazelnut pollen have already shown typical hay fever symptoms (itching nose, sneezing, congested nose, rhinorrea and also watering and itching eyes). As these symptoms are often interpreted as a nasal infection or a cold people affected should see an allergist.

The PID sees this early start of hazelnut pollen flight as a reaction to the warm weather situation and possibly to the climate change.
