Around 13 million people in Germany suffer from allergies. Over the course of a generation, the number of allergic persons in the country has nearly doubled. Allergies are becoming increasingly common in the rest of Europe as well. Scientists predict that in the year 2015, every second European will have an allergy. Careful and specific information about allergies must be made available to a wide audience – allergies are still too often not taken seriously enough.
So that allergy patients all across Europe have access to the same knowledge and information, the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) has made it its goal to create an informational internet platform for Europe that gives information in the language of each country.
”We cannot ignore allergies“, explains Professor Dr. med. Torsten Zuberbier, Director of the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF). “In order to continue to improve quality of life for allergy sufferers, information about allergies must become general knowledge”, continues the allergy expert.
The ECARF Allergy Information Portal for Poland has recently gone online. After Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Denmark, France and Italy, Poland is the seventh EU country represented by an allergy explanation source.
ECARF Ambassador in Poland, Prof. Dr. med. Marek Kowalski, says, “Allergies know no boundaries. They can affect anyone young or old. Small pollen can travel long distances. It is certainly possible that pollen from Poland can cause hay fever in people in Germany – and vice versa.”
