Five hotels in Austria rewarded for their approach to allergy sufferers

The European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) has awarded five hotels in Austria the ECARF Seal of Quality for the measures they have taken for allergy sufferers.

The foundation honours the commitment of these family run businesses that provide their services with special consideration of the needs and wishes of allergy sufferers. To reach this stage there was a step by step implementation of the ECARF criteria for allergy-conscious hotels in the individual holiday resorts.
 
These family-run businesses in the Steiermark and Pinzgau regions belong to the network  „Allergen-Free-Living Hotels“, which co-operates with the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation. Companies that join this organisation are certified according to the ECARF criteria. Allergy sufferers and their relatives are guaranteed high-quality standards for a holiday with a high standard of living and a minimal chance of allergic reactions.

„Mite resistant mattress covers, blankets and cushions, not using plants that often cause an allergic reaction and  the guarantee of pet-free rooms are just several examples of  the new allergy-conscious standards in our hotels“, said Max Strafinger, co-ordinator of the service group Allergen-Free-Living. „The ECARF Seal of Quality is a guarantee for services that makes our hotels even more attractive for a large number of allergy sufferers and their relatives. “

The hotel restaurants have also taken the needs and requirements of allergy sufferers into consideration: allergy sufferers can now pre-order specific meals. In addition a range of special food is provided, including lactose- and gluten-free products. 

„Hotels are awarded the allergy-friendly ECARF Seal of Quality if they can demonstrate that they have helped or indeed improved the daily lives of allergy sufferers “, stated Professor Dr. med. Torsten Zuberbier, Head of the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF). „Particularly when travelling, allergies present the sufferer with considerable challenges. I am glad, that with the certification of these five hotels the number of allergy-friendly holiday resorts in Austria has increased noticeably.“
