„Hyposensitizing is still the only form of treatment that can cure an allergy because it fights the causes of the allergic reaction“, says Professor Dr. med. Torsten Zuberbier, head of the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF). „We hope that more allergy sufferers will decide to make use of this successful method of treatment.“
Allergic sneezing can lead to asthma
Hyposensitizing has been continually developed and improved in the last couple of years. Today the success rate for curing pollen-allergy sufferers is almost 90%. A therapy can take the form of a series of injections, tablets or drops. At the same time the additional risk of developing asthma is drastically reduced. In 40 % of all cases left untreated allergic sneezing develops into an allergic asthma; allergy experts describe this dramatic deterioration as a “level change”. Allergic sneezing is caused by an allergen which the immune system wrongly interprets as dangerous and an active defence response is triggered. The allergen can be pollen, animal hair, mites or mould. Symptoms can be seasonal or in severe cases appear throughout the whole year depending on the allergen.
