It is not easy to find the right words for the feelings that have been dominating us for the past few days. We are saddened by the death of Professor Dr. Marcus Maurer, who left us far too soon. We have to say goodbye to someone who was a truly special person in all facets of his work. He accompanied and shaped us all in his wonderful way. And we are proud to have gone a long way together with Marcus. His death leaves a huge gap.
Marcus Maurer was an exceptional scientist and clinician whose contributions to allergy research have left a lasting legacy. He was Deputy Director of the Institute of Allergology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Co-Director of Immunology and Allergology at the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP. Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Maurer has focused on the understanding of mast cells, urticaria, mastocytosis, pruritus and angioedema, helping to advance both scientific knowledge and clinical practice.
His scientific curiosity combined with his passion for exploring new therapeutic possibilities made him a key figure in allergy research and treatment and has improved quality of life for countless people worldwide.
His work with and for GA²LEN (Global Allergy and Asthma Excellence Network), dedicated to global improvement in the treatment of allergic diseases, has been instrumental in bridging the gap between clinical practice and research in the fields of allergy and asthma. Its leadership role in UCARE (Urticaria Centers of Reference and Excellence) and ACARE (Angioedema Centers of Reference and Excellence) has helped provide better care for thousands of patients.
We have lost an outstanding pioneering scientist, an exceptional teacher, a meaningful business partner who unwaveringly achieved and realized a great whole with his vision and a truly good person of the heart who expressed his love in his words and deeds.
Dear Marcus, our world has become much poorer without you, admiring and loving you was easy, forgetting you impossible! We remain together in thought.
The loss is enormous and our deepest sympathy goes out to Marcus Maurer’s family.
In order to give everyone who knew Marcus the opportunity to express their grief, memories and sympathy, a digital book of condolence has been opened.
